Time spent here—on the water or in the water—seems to touch the deepest reaches of the senses. As one perfect day melts into the next, the waters of Wakaya restore the spirit.
Not one blue but a myriad!
You are standing on the beach, toes lost in warm white sand. Between you and the horizon lies a symphony of azure, lapis, indigo, aquamarine, robin’s egg, sapphire and tropical sky blue—and the brighter the sun shines, the richer the palette becomes. The waters of Wakaya hold a trove of treasures for you to discover, a parallel universe full of beautiful surprises.
The Wakaya barrier reef is a protected ecosystem teeming with life and color. Years ago, we took steps to preserve the integrity of the entire reef system in front of The Wakaya Club & Spa by making it a marine reserve. As a result, you can observe a rich variety of Fijian marine life simply by wading into the water in front of your bure. The water is warm, the waves are small and there’s much to enjoy, from small, colorful reef fish to the occasional brilliant starfish.
Our water activities include:
- Scuba diving and Snorkeling
- Fishing, Reef Viewing and Swimming
- Sea Kayaking
- Paddle Boarding
Scuba Diving and Snorkeling
There is no better way to discover Wakaya than by venturing into “the blue.” Your room rate includes one one-tank dive per person per stay and all equipment (available Monday through Saturday). Enhanced by the able assistance and good company of The Wakaya Club & Spa staff who call these waters home, certified scuba divers can explore more than a dozen outstanding dive sites just minutes from the Marina. For non-certified divers, we have a selection of scuba courses so you may become certified here on Wakaya. Snorkeling is excellent right in front of your bure or at any of the dive sites. All arrangements may be made through our staff at the Reception Bure.
Fishing, Reef Viewing and Swimming
Wakaya offers fishing for everyone, from the challenge of reef casting and the tranquility of handline fishing, to the thrill of deep-sea fishing. Please contact us for information on excursions and charter rates. Fishing excursions are available Monday through Saturday.
Wakaya is blessed with several excellent swimming beaches, the most notable being Homestead Bay. For your pleasure there is also a freshwater pool beside the Palm Grove Restaurant deck.
Sea kayaking is an excellent way to see the waters around Wakaya and get some exercise at the same time.
